Pskov railway museum was created by railway enthusiasts. One of the main initiators of the museum creation was a locomotive engineer Alexander Ivanovich Valentik, who had been working as a director of the museum since its opening in 1967 until 1979. He had done a great deal of research and collecting work to identify museum exhibits, studying of archive materials, scientific and specific literature in the largest archives and libraries in the country, in the private archives. He also collect and record memoirs of witnesses and participants of many important events of our history and railways in particular. In the beginning, the museum was located in the station building. In 1983, the museum was provided with new premises. Now it is located on the first floor of a 5-storey residential building in the historic center of the railwaymen district near Pskov railway station.
